National Enhanced Oil Recovery Initiative to Release Recommendations
to Increase Domestic Oil Production & Reduce Emissions

Members of Congress will join the National Enhanced Oil Recovery Initiative (NEORI) members to release recommendations to increase American oil production, strengthen the economy and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions in an event on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, February 28 at 2:30 pm.

In advance of the Capitol Hill event, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) and the Great Plains Institute (GPI) – the facilitating organizations for NEORI – will preview the recommendations in a press-only teleconference at 12 pm ET.

NEORI, a coalition of industry, state, environmental and labor leaders, calls for federal and state incentives to stimulate the expansion of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) using CO2 from power plants and industrial facilities.

Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) and Congressman Mike Conaway (R-TX) will speak at the event at
2:30pm ET. The event will be webcast.

In EOR, oil producers routinely inject CO2 into wells to draw more oil to the surface. The practice supplies 6 percent of current U.S. oil production and enables production in already developed oil fields that otherwise would not occur using conventional oil recovery technologies, but limited supplies of CO2 constrain the expansion of EOR and its potential to increase our domestic oil supply.
